The spirit of Rajasthan’s history & legend coloured by chivalry and romance finds expression in Jaipur. Built in pink stone more than two centuries ago by Maharaja Jai Singh II, the capital is a testimony to the skill of master craftsmen.

The Samode Haveli was built over 150 years ago by Rawal Sheo Singhji, a Prime Minister in the Jaipur court, who belonged to the family of Samode, tracing their relation to the Jaipur Maharaja the fabled Prithviraj Singh It was built as the Samode Royal family’s suburban manor house and was converted into a heritage hotel in 1988. Today it stands as a reminder of a halcyonic past offering moments of subtle luxury. The property was constructed facing North away from the burning Rajasthan sun and features a spectacular painted dining room, an airy verandah and an elephant ramp at the entrance which was specially constructed in the 1940’s for the marriage ceremony of the late Rawal Sahib’s aunt.

The Haveli has been masterfully restored and integrated into a unique property.

Amidst the bustle of one of India’s most historical cities, Samode Haveli is a peaceful respite. It stands in the heart of the sprawling walled city of Jaipur suffused with an atmosphere of quiet beauty. It’s central location makes it a convenient place to stay, moments away from virtually all Jaipur’s attractions – historical and cultural monuments and sites of interest like the historical and imposing Amber Fort, Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds), Jal Mahal (Lake Palace), City Palace Museum, Shopping & entertainment.

Every evening enjoy a drink, cultural and puppet shows in the central courtyard.

The Nor-Khill, of the Elgin heritage group of hotels in the state of Sikkim in eastern Himalayas at Gangtok, known for its traditions, unchanged characteristics and ethnic Sikkimese ambiance. You are welcome as royal guests at The Nor-Khill or in Sikkimese, the house of jewels. What is now the Kanchan Garden used to be a favourite vantage point of the Chogyal of Sikkim. The panoramic view of the lush green hills and the Kanchenjunga in the background, inspired him to paint for hours in the gardens of The Nor-Khill.

The Nor-Khill in Sikkimese means 'House of Jewels'. Jewels of Sikkim relates to its mountains, its people, its flora and fauna and its animals and fruits. This Nor-Khill was built by the King of Sikkim in 1932 as his Royal Guest House where he received and entertained Heads of States and dignitaries. Today the 4800 sq ft Function Room is the imposing lobby of the oldest heritage hotel in Gangtok. The heritage building still hosts all important visitors to the capital of Sikkim. From his holiness The Dalai Lama, to the US Ambassador to India His Excellency John Galbreith, to Heads of States and movie stars, to you and your family, each and every guest at Nor-Khill is a VIP.

The imposing lobby is resplendent in the bright and bold colours of the folk art that adorn its walls. From the lucky design motifs depicting dragons and flame symbols, to the thankas or wall hangings, the ornate bachu and chocsue, or center and side tables, the regal look of the yesteryears have been proudly preserved. An in-house curio shop sells traditional artcrafts and jewellery. Come, indulge yourself to the best Sikkim has to offer. Grace The Nor-Khill.

The Elgin, of the Elgin Heritage Group of Hotels at Darjeeling in the Himalayas. Darjeeling is known as the 'Queen of the Hills'. The name derives from 'Dorji Ling', or the God of Thunder. Small wonder then, that the weather varies from the pleasant to cold, to very cold. As you enter, the heritage - The Elgin, warmth greets you. A silken Khada is drapped around your neck as a traditional Himalayan welcome, as sparkling cherry liquor spreads a Warm glow within. The phrase 'old world charm' is a palpable feeling of being snug and cozy in this quaint and charming 120 year old residence reminiscent of the heydays of the Raj. It is justified, considering that royalty and distinguished Heads of States have spent many moments here, appreciating the lithographs by Daniell and etchings by G.Douglas that adorn its walls. Dominique Lapierre and Mark Tully have found inspiration to write in its relaxed interiors. The Elgin has hosted the Crown Prince of Sikkim Tenzing Namgyal, the royal family of Bhutan, US Ambassador Galbraith and many more renowned personalities. You can immerse yourself into books from our well-stocked library. There is something about settling down with a good book surrounded by old pictures and paintings on the walls and antic furniture that is such a special experience. The period Burma teak furniture, oak floor boards and paneling, the crackling log fireplaces, the candle-lit dinning tables and the soft strains of the melodies wafting from the piano… each has a story to tell. Stories of the stylish life-style of its first owner, the Maharaja of Cooch Bihar, of John William Pavion and his lady wife Edith Agnes Pavion, who took the building on rent from the Maharaja and ran it as The Elgin hotel from 1911-1930. Stories of Mrs. Margaret Walker and her legacy of the lavish Christmas parties which is continued even today. After being run by Mrs. Walker from 1930-47, the hotel passed on to Mrs. Nancy Oakley, who played host to the first Indian guests in 1950. Colonial charm is a tangible adjective at The Elgin Darjeeling. When history surrounds you amidst all the comforts of today, it is a wonderful feeling that words and images cannot convey.

General Information Haridwar is the gateway to the four pilgrimages of Uttaranchal. It's also your starting point on the journey to the sacred sources of the Ganga and the Yamuna Rivers. According to legend, Prince Bhagirath performed penance here to salvage the souls of his ancestors who had perished due to Sage Kapila's curse. The penance was answered and the river Ganga trickled forth from Lord Shiva's locks and its bountiful water revived the sons of King Sagara. In the tradition of Bhagirath, devout Hindus stand in the sacred waters here, praying for the salvation of their ancestors. The holy city of Haridwar is home to some of the Most sacred Hindu rituals. Round the year, devotees from all over the country flock here in thousands to perform "Poojas" or prayers. Renowned for the "Maha Kumbh Mela" which appears Every 12 years and the enchanting "Aarti" at "Har Ki Pauri" which captives the beholder with hundreds of burning wick lamps floating down the Ganga, this town has been distinguished for centuries in the Indian society.

The list of attractions in Haridwar is endless. Har-Ki-Pauri, the sacred ghat was constructed by King Vikramaditya in the memory of his brother Bhartrihari. The golden reflection of floral diyas in the river Ganges is the most enchanting sight in the twilight during the Ganga aarti ceremony at the ghat.

Haridwar has a number of interesting sites that you can include in your excursion. Rishikesh, around 28 km off Haridwar, is at the base of the Himalayas and it is where the Ganges comes down to the plains from the hills. A breathtaking experience of natural beauty and undiscovered wildlife awaits here. Not to mention the peace and tranquility of a landscape associated with sages and meditation.

History: Haridwar or 'the Gateway to the Gods' is one of the seven holiest places according to Hindu mythology, as the Gods are believed to have left their footprints in Haridwar. Due to its geographical location too, Haridwar stands as the gateway to the other three important pilgrimages of Uttrakhand namely, Rishikesh, Badrinath and Kedarnath. Referred to as Mayapuri, Gangadwar, and Mokshadwar in the ancient scriptures and epics, Haridwar has always remained a major pilgrimage for the Hindus.

According to the mythology it is known as Kapilsthan. legend goes that the suryavnshi Prince Bhagirath performed penance here to salvage the souls of his ancestors who had perished due to the curse of the sage Kapila. The penance was answered and the river Ganga trickled forth from Lord Shiva's locks and its bountiful waters revived the sixty thousand sons of King Sagara. Mythologically, drops of nectar churned out from the primordial ocean fell at the four sites of the Kumbh mela including Haridwar. The kumbha mela, happening once every 12 years and the Ardha Kumbha Mela (Coming once every six years) are big draws.

One of the oldest living cities, Haridwar has been in people's mind from the period of Buddha to the British advent and now even is the 21st century. Besides being a religious place, it has served as the center for learning arts, science and culture.

Tourist Attractions: Har ki Pauri King Vikramaditya constructed this sacred Ghat in memory of his brother Bhatrihari who it is believed had come to Haridwar to meditate on the banks of the Ganga. This ghat later came to be known as Har-Ki-Pauri (also called Brahamakund). At twilight, golden hues of floral diyas reflected in the river Ganga present the most enchanting sight. The imprint of Lord Hari's footprint hallows the riverbank temple here. The ghat is regarded the most sacred and auspicious point to bathe in the Ganga during the 12 year Kumbh and the 6 year Ardh Kumbh. Sapt Rishi Ashram and Sapt Sarovar According to legend the Saptarshis (seven sages) were deep in meditation here. The Ganga, not wanting to disturb them split herself into seven streams (Sapt Sarovar) around them.

Mansa Devi Temple The temple of Goddess Mansa Devi is situated at the top of Bilwa Parwat. The rope-way with its brightly coloured cable cars take devotees to the old hilltop of Mansa Devi.

Chandi Devi Temple The Chandi Devi temple at the top of Neel Parvat on river Ganga's banks was built in1929 A.D. by the King of Kashmir-Suchat Singh. A three kilometers trek from Chandighat, it is believed that the main statue was established by the Adi Shankaracharya in 8th century AD. It is at a distance of six kilometers on Neel Parvat on the other bank of River Ganga.

Maya Devi Temple This is an ancient temple of Maya Devi the Adhisthatri deity of Haridwar, known as one of the Siddhapethas. Said to be the places where the hearts and navel of Goddess Sati had fallen.

Daksha Mahadev Temple The ancient temple of Daksha Mahadev stands in the south Kankhal town. Mythology has it that King Daksha Prajapati, father of Sati (Lord Shiva's first wife) performed yagya at this place, but didn't invite Lord Shiva (Mahadev). Feeling insulted, Sati burnt herself in the yagya kund. Provoked by this, the ganas (followers) of Lord Shiva killed King Daksha. Later, Lord Shiva brought him back to life.
