In 1935, Raibahadur Kanaklal Barua, a prominent citizen of Assam who served as a member of the Viceroy's Executive Council, built a lodge in the popular neo-colonial style of the times. The architect was his son, Tapan Lal Barua, but it was after his daughter - Rosa - that the Rosaville lodge was named. The lodge remains within the family and retains all the flavour of a family home but Rosa now lives in Mumbai and the doors of the lodge were opened to visitors. Rosaville Lodge was a home, but a prestigious home of an illustrious man. The nostalgia of a grander past, when a cup of evening tea retained all the flavour of a ceremony rather than an ordinary ritual lingers still in the décor, be it the furniture from the colonial times or the family memorabilia in the hallways.
