The Snow Lion, a mythical creature of Tibetan lore, is the national symbol of Tibet. The Snow Lion resides in the East and represents unconditional cheerfulness, a mind free of doubt, clear and precise. Two Snow Lions appear on the national flag of Tibet. Fearless and valiant, the Snow Lions represent complete victory over all obstacles. They are a symbol of Tibetan culture and heritage, and represent the vitality of Tibetans.
Snow Lion Home Stay is owned and managed by a Tibetan family. At Snow Lion Home Stay, you will experience first hand the rich cultural heritage of the Tibetan people, coupled with all the amenities and comforts of modern living. Tibetans are known the world over for their quiet strength, compassion and hospitality. Snow Lion Home Stay is an extension of these qualities, where guests are welcomed and treated like personal guests of the family. You will feel like you are visiting the home of an old friend, and indeed that is what we hope to achieve, to feel that you are in a home away from home.
Location:
Snow Lion Home Stay is situated very close to the Chowrasta, which is the heart of Darjeeling with an easy gradient. It is in easy proximity to several restaurants and the Taxi stand. Just opposite are the local Tibetan Community Hall and the office of the Tibetan Refugee Centre.
Snow Lion provides spectacular views of the beautiful Kanchenzonga mountain ranges, and of the Darjeeling town.
The Tibetan hospitality:
The Gailly family will go to great lengths to ensure that you are comfortable. If you need anything, you just need to tell.
A Tibetan home consumes copious amounts of tea. You are welcome to join the family at any time in the living room and discuss topics of interest over endless cups of tea.
If you feel like eating something special, you just have to let them know. The cook will try to satisfy your taste buds.
Rooms:
There are currently twelve guest rooms, which are fully furnished, with TV and telephone connectivity. The rooms also reflect Tibetan culture and provide stunning views of the town and the mountain ranges
