Old-fashioned cooking on a smoke-free charcoal stove. Start with that and there’s not much that can go wrong. The cooks dish out some local cuisine that’s hot and heart-warming. They go into the forests, for example, foraging for a local fern that grows nowhere else in the world, and chop it up into dinner. Other Kerala dishes make up the rest of the menu, and what makes it even more unforgettable, is that you get to eat in the kitchen itself, around a large wooden table, or against the backdrop of the flaming setting sun, or even get it all carted to a nearby waterfall, where you can trek to, only to find the food waiting already.

Once part of the old Rewa state, Bandhavgarh National Park is set amidst the Vindhya ranges with a series of ridges running through it. Initially this park was the royal hunting ground for the rulers of Rewa. But in 1968 it was declared a park with an area of only 105.4 sq. km. At present, however, the Bandhavgarh Park covers 448 sq km.

The Bandhavgarh National Park is the place where the famous white tigers of Rewa were discovered. The last known capture of the white tiger was in1951. He is believed to have fathered many a cub in Indian zoos and outside. 'Mohan' is now stuffed and on display in the palace of of the Maharaja of Rewa.

Bandhavgarh is densely populated with other animal species too. The sambar, barking deer and nilgai are also common sights in the open areas of the park

The vegetation of the park is dry deciduous. About half of the park is covered with sal trees. There are mixed forests in the higher reaches of the hills. Stretches of Bamboo and grasslands extend to the north of the park. Grassy meadow patches occur in the valley and along the nalas. The park sustains all those species which are typical to Central India.

Sukhdham traces its history back to the 19th century. After the killing of the British political agent and his colleagues in the 1857 mutiny, Sukhdham was built as a safe haven for the Agency Surgeon in circa 1870. In 1922, when the Agency shifted from Kotah, it came to the Kotah state. His highness, Umed Singhji, Maharao of Kotah, christened it Sukhdham.

In 1929, it became the residence of Col. Thakur Prithvi Singhji, M.B.E., General Officer in Commanding, the Kotah State forces.Col. Thankur Prithvi Singhji was the second person from Rajasthan to get the Kings Commission. He had a distinguished career in the British Indian Army and saw action in the third Afghan War and World War I. After retirement in 1927, the colourful Maharaja of Patiala, Bhupinder Singh ji (his course mate), invited him to command his forces. This he accepted and was in Patiala till 1929. On the request of Maharao of Kota, he came to Kota in 1929 and was appointed G.O.C. Kota state forces. He then raised the Umed Infantry on modern lines.

After Col. Thakur Prithvi Singhji, his only son Thakur Jaswant Singhji inherited Sukhdham. In 1996, Sukhdham became a heritage hotel. Jaiwardhan and Harshwardhan Singh, the grandsons of Col. Cradled in the cluster of thirteen mountain peaks of the Arawali ranges, the formidable medieval citadel – Kumbhalgarh stands a wary sentinel to the past glory. Rising from a prominent rigde, 1014 meter high from the sea level, the fort was build in the 15th century AD by Maharana Kumba (1419-63 AD) and has the distinction of being the birth place of great warrior Maharana Pratap.
